NCMA consolidates Concrete Masonry Product Category Rule

MANUFACTURED CONCRETE MASONRY AND CONCRETE MASONRY PRODUCTS SPECIFICATIONS

The draft Product Category Rule informs Environmental Product Declarations for a host of unit types.

After a public comment period through mid-May, the National Concrete Masonry Association is finalizing a linchpin of forthcoming block and hardscape Environmental Product Declarations (EPD): the draft Product Category Rule (PCR) for “Manufactured Concrete and Concrete Masonry Products.”

The PCR provides EPD preparation requirements for a variety of products, including concrete masonry and segmental retaining wall units, plus manufactured stone veneer. In turn, EPD requirements or incentives are emerging in project specifications or contracts as green building rating systems drive such documentation. NCMA has engaged ASTM International for the PCR and prospective EPD development and certification. Additional information on the PCR can be obtained from NCMA Research and Development Manager Nick Lang, 4-0935; [email protected]
